Case Study: Anterior All-Ceramic Veneer Aesthetic Restoration

Case Background
The patient presented with yellowish discoloration, uneven spacing, and a gummy smile, which affected social confidence. The patient sought a minimally invasive solution to achieve tooth whitening and aesthetic improvement while preserving natural teeth. After oral examination and facial aesthetic evaluation, an all-ceramic veneer restoration plan was selected to simultaneously improve color, shape, and smile aesthetics.
Restoration Process
- Digital Aesthetic Design: Intraoral 3D scanning was used to capture dentition data. Combined with facial midline, lip line, and smile arc, the veneer shape, shade, and alignment were simulated in software to adjust tooth proportions and spacing precisely, previewing the final smile effect.
- Minimally Invasive Tooth Preparation: Following minimally invasive principles, only a small amount (0.3-0.5mm) of labial tooth tissue was removed from the anterior teeth, preserving healthy tooth structure to provide stable bonding space for veneers while optimizing gingival margin morphology.
- All-Ceramic Veneer Fabrication & Try-In: High-strength all-ceramic veneers were milled using CAD/CAM technology, featuring natural translucency and delicate texture. During try-in, occlusion, proximal contacts, and marginal adaptation were finely adjusted to ensure both aesthetic and functional performance.
- Bonding & Post-Operative Care: Veneers were firmly bonded to the tooth surfaces with professional resin adhesive, and margins were polished to prevent food impaction. The patient was instructed on daily cleaning and maintenance to ensure long-term durability.
Restoration Outcome
Post-restoration, the anterior teeth exhibited uniform, bright color and full, smooth shape, with complete resolution of discoloration and spacing issues. The smile arc was naturally harmonious, and the gummy smile was optimized, highly compatible with facial proportions. The patient experienced comfortable wearing with no foreign body sensation, completely eliminating the distress of yellowish teeth and an unappealing smile, and regaining confident and elegant social status.
